Designer Babies....

My next big science project. I get to write about the pros and cons of Designer Babies without adding in my personal opinion. I think after that though, I get to take part in a debate. From what I see this whole "Designer Baby" process involves a lot of miss trials. When an Embryo does not turn out the way they want it to, they kill it.

I don't know. I always thought the whole wondering what the gender of your child is was half the fun. Now you can change the gender or the way they appear. Kinda like what Hitler tried doing with blond hair and blue eyes. So, for those who would say "Your playing God" i think you might get more of a reaction if you walked up to a couple and told them that they are playing Hitler. If they think they are playing God they feel all powerful or something, at least, that is how I would view it... But if you say "Your playing Hitler" it's like hah, you are a dead evil dictator who slaughtered tons of innocent people just because he didn't like them.

I did read one thing that made sense when it comes to the Pro side of the argument. The baby is not just being used as a tool if it is designed to help another child and will still be loved by the parent. I do not believe that still affects the tons of Embryo's that are killed in the process though.

I still wonder though... How would you feel if you were about... Let's say 16... and you discovered that your parents had you genetically modified before birth to look a certain way or be good at sports. What if you never liked sports, but your dad messed with your genetics so you would be good at them, and all your life he pushed you to play sports.

So basically... I'm not thrilled with the idea at all...

Sounds fun.
The last statement brought clarity to the whole thing.

For one, I don't want elitists controlling the wonders of life

and secondly, this designer baby stuff takes the uniqueness out of life.

But apart from those two arguments

perhaps even after being genetically altered, aren't they still human beings? they still have choices
